Janice Shaw
MA, MSW, RSW
Janice Shaw is a registered Social Worker with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. She obtained her Masters in Social Work from the University of Toronto and a few years prior, her Masters of Arts from Queen’s University.
During her career, she has worked primarily with individuals and couples and has facilitated a myriad of groups on topics such as parenting, parenting through separation and divorce, issues involving family violence, and has worked with children throughout her career both individually and in groups.
Janice practices from a strength based and nonjudgmental perspective. She uses a variety of modalities in her practice and which modality used will depend on what will best meet the client’s need at the time. She is always client focused and draws from Cognitive Behavioral Theory, Dialectical Behavioural Theory, Trauma Informed Practice, Mindfulness, Solution Focused approaches to therapy. She has had specialized training in Sexuality and the importance and impact this has on the self as well as the critical importance within relationships across the spectrum of sexual identities and expression as well as diverse relationship models.
Outside of her professional practice, Janice is a single mom to a wonderful teenage boy. She has a reverence for nature and loves participating in public education and speaking events.
