John MacMillan
BSW, RSW (MSW Candidate)
John MacMillan is a Registered Social Worker, having completed his Social Development Studies, Bachelor of Social Work (Dean’s Honours), and is currently completing a Masters degree of Social Work at the University of Waterloo. During this 8 month supervised internship, he is pleased to be accepting new clients at RGA & The Space Within, at the downtown site: 35 Market Place.
John brings a wealth of experience to this next part of his professional development. His work is rooted in the practice of mindfulness, while utilizing compassionate inquiry and trauma informed practices. He draws upon CBT and DBT to help clients build skillful responses to the challenges in their lives that helps build their capacity for healing, growth and change.
For over twenty years, John has had experience in supporting people of all ages and backgrounds who live with trauma, mental health issues, and neurodiversity needs in residential, community, educational, and medical settings. He strongly believes all people have the right to autonomy, respect, and equity, as they move along their path towards well-being. When working alongside individuals and facilitating groups, John offers empathic and skillful guidance while being supportive and affirming of clients’ skills and efforts towards personal change goals.
John will be accepting individual clients: adolescents, adults, and older adults who experience depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, school and work pressures, difficult family dynamics, unhealthy relationships, caregiving roles and parenting challenges as well as substance and behavioural dependencies.
The fee to see John is reduced and scaled for clients during his practicum. Please contact our Administrator or fill in a request for service form to be referred to him.
